A Birthday Story

A Birthday Story

The party
Minimike had been planning for months to host her birthday party at #3 on the Toddler Axis of Evil. No matter how obnoxious the venue, it’s hard to be grumpy about it when the kids so obviously have a great time.

The excitement began when Minimike blew out her candles…

…and immediately took off with pal “Hawkes” for a joyride in a jeep…

…which somehow ended up with Minimike getting incarcerated…

…and charming the local sheriff into a lenient sentence. Time served, about 4.5 minutes, beating La Hilton by 71.85 hours and La Richie by 77.5 minutes.

I’m saving this story, in case this incident is repeated in the year 2020. Then I will only need to cut and paste and update photos.

Blue Kangaroo
Minimike is an admirer of the Blue Kangaroo series by Emma Chichester Clark. They all start out with,

Blue Kangaroo belonged to Lily.
He was her very own kangaroo.

Minimike’s favorite of the series, (It Was You, Blue Kangaroo!) goes on to say,

Sometimes, when Lily was very naughty, she would say,
“It was you, Blue Kangaroo!”
And Blue Kangaroo would look at Lily but say nothing.

I couldn’t find a comparably sized blue kangaroo, so I made one. I am not nearly the needle artist that SIL Laurie is, but Minimike ended up with a close-enough match.*

The kangaroo’s name is Elizabeth and lets the other loveys ride in her pouch. She loves Motown music, especially Stevie Wonder.

*Laurie: I used Vogue 7760 and shortened the bunny’s ears and arms, improvised the tummy into a pouch, and widened the kitty’s tail at the base. The material is fleece and the whiskers are waxed cotton cord.

Hee — a few months ago, we went to Chuck-E-Cheese for the first time, and I realized it was a GOOD thing. Maya could wander, and we could have a conversation in semi-peace. The same day, we looked at minivans. Ouch, how times change.

Thought about Minimike the other day — realized as we were driving somewhere (of course) that it was her 4th birthday. Amazing. I’m still trying to take it in that Maya will be 3 in less than 3 weeks. Anyway, the kangaroo was fantastic work — muy impressivo. Happy birthday Minimike!

      I’m with Allison. Muy impressivo.

You are much more talented than you give yourself credit for, my dear. What a lucky little girl to have you for her Mommy. What lucky 2 little girls actually. You are always doing such neat things for them. Halloween costumes are always the best!!

Looks as if she had a great birthday!

      Love you

Allie – by next year muy impressivo will be am eindrucksvollsten, n’est-ce pas? (I just google’d that, so I apologize if I inadvertently said anything bad ’bout your mama.)

Thanks to you both! While the only one that really needs to be impressed is the Mini’s, it helps to be in a creative family.

Between Matt’s & Frank’s artistry, Laurie’s & your (Sandy’s) needlework, Neil’s photography, Dad’s woodworking, and goodness knows what other talents are yet to be revealed, there’s a lot of inspiration (& competition)!
